Study: Deep space radiation linked to deaths of Apollo astronauts

According to AI.COM, a new study shows that the Apollo astronauts were five times more likely to die of cardio vascular problems than astronauts who flew into low earth orbit. The cause is linked to exposure to deep space radiation, which gave the 24 men who flew to the moon more galactic cosmic radiation than any other astronauts or cosmonauts.

Half the Apollo astronauts have died from cardio vascular disease. Meanwhile, NASA, which funded the study, disputes the findings saying the data set is too small and that it's too early to make that determination based on only one deep space program.  And they may have a point, considering the astronauts of the sixties didn't have the same lifestyle as those today. Though astronauts are in near perfect health and have the best healthcare around, astronauts in the 60s lived in an era where smoking and social drinking was far more mainstream.
